Student Council
The Student Council is the central student organization of the school.
It aims to evoke and develop the leadership qualities of youth today.
Working to represent the student body in a consultative capacity, the
student representatives learn to interact with both administration
and faculty in the planning and evaluating of school programs,
policies and projects.
As student representatives, each young woman elected to this
position is expected to encourage, uphold and support the spirit and values
that Holy Family Academy seeks to enliven in our Christian community.
Members include the Big Five or executive board, class presidents and
class representatives.
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society has as its purpose the creation
of enthusiasm for scholarship, the stimulation of a
desire to render service, the promotion of leadership,
the development of character. Sophomore and Junior students
are eligible for NHS membership if their cumulative
GPA is equal to or above 3.6. The NHS Faculty Council,
using the criteria of leadership, character and service,
judging each characteristic independently, determines
membership. Students selected are expected to continue
to demonstrate the qualities which underlie the NHS.
Harvest
HARVEST, the school yearbook, tells the story of the graduating and underclass
students in pictures and text retelling the activities of the scholastic year.
It serves as a reliable record of the academic year with special emphasis on
seniors. The editor and staff are appointed by the moderator.
Harvester
THE HARVESTER the school newspaper, is published online periodically during
the school year with print copies on occasion. The school paper encourages school
spirit and keeps the students in touch with the news of the school as well as
its activities, and provides opportunities for literary and artistic expression.
The moderator appoints the editor and oversees the development of the staff.
Musings
The school literary magazine, MUSINGS, is composed of creative writing and its
artistic supplement. Students contribute to the publication which is printed in
the spring.
Newsletters
FALCONIDAE, the quarterly all-publics newsletter, contains news about the current and
the alumni/ae community. Monthly updates for parents contain information and
monthly calendars.
Assemblies
Assemblies schedules periodically throughout the school
year are intended to be a valuable part of the educational
and spiritual process of HFA. Included under the designation
"assembly" are liturgical celebrations, arts and musical
programs, recognition ceremonies, honor assemblies,
educational programs, pep rallies, Student Council activities
and social activities. Students and faculty are expected
to remain for the PM assembly.
Chorus
Membership, open to all students, entails presence at weekly rehearsals and appearance
in several performances throughout the school year. Students understand correct singing
techniques and voice training through a wide variety of music, both secular and sacred,
for the artistic enrichment and experience of the students.
Dance Troupe
A love of dancing and a willingness to try are the only requirements for
membership in the Dance Troupe. Members perform at various school and
community functions during the year. The girls also participate in liturgical
celebrations. The Troupe produces a Christmas ballet and a full length
recital each spring. Members receive instruction in many different forms of
dance, including jazz, lyrical, modern, ballet and tap.
Drama
Students are invited to participate in one-act plays and Broadway musical
productions as actresses, singers or dancers, stage crew or makeup and costume
assistants. Students apply for roles with the understanding that they are making
a commitment to see the program to conclusion.
Ambassador Club
Students are invited to apply for membership to represent HFA as part of the Open
House, Freshman for a Day, social receptions after assemblies and other development
programs.
E.R.A.S.E.
Membership is open to all students who are invited to take part in planning and
presenting programs within and without the school community focusing on this
club's purpose - to end racism and sexism everywhere.
Forensics
Membership is open to all students who wish to develop their writing and
public speaking skills. Students participate in six meets each year.
Mock Trial
All students are invited to participate in this activity which gives the
students the opportunity to experience the justice system in operation with
the help of the volunteer attorney.
Computer Club
Students explore software and internet technology that is currently not included
in the curriculum for recreation as well as academic and business purposes and to
share their expertise with others.
Spanish Club
Membership is open to anyone who enjoys the Spanish language and wishes to promote
its study as well as the Latina culture.
Model UN
Students participate in an interscholastic assembly resembling the United Nations
sponsored by area colleges. They act as representatives of member nations, prepare
position papers and debate issues in the assembly.
SADD
This national organization has been renamed Students Against Destructive Decisions.
Its focus is to educate HFA students as well as students in area elementary schools
about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, tobacco and other substances which affect decision-making.
Earth Matters
Students interested in treasuring and caring for the earth and its human and animal inhabitants
participate in research, discussion and activities to further ecological endeavors.
Math Club
Students interested in mathematical explorations engage in practical problem-solving,
research and activities to encourage other to enjoy mathematics applications.
Chess Club
Students meet informally each morning to play.
Film Club
Students meet weekly to view and critique films.
Anime Club
Students meet weekly to view and discuss Anime features, share and read manga, compete in console-based games. |
